A bronze, elf-like determine sits on the fringe of the River Enz in Germany, ready to greet passersby with pleasant arcs of coloration. The mysterious kind, put in as a part of Ornamenta 2024, was conceived by Veronika Sedlmair and Brynjar Sigurðarson over three years. The Iceland and Germany-based inventive duo, a.ok.a. Studio Brynjar & Veronika, has been working collectively for greater than a decade, designing and executing items impressed by the theatrical and narrative facets of nature.
“Haug, the Rainbow Fountain” lingers on the fascinating line between delusion and the mundane. “In Icelandic folklore, the rainbow is the bridge between people and elves,” the pair clarify. “This led us to create an elf or a water spirit that might be a ‘rainbow maker.’”
The River Enz flows by Pforzheim from west to east, marking the right spot for rainbow formation from dawn to sundown. In a seamless mesh between craft and technological design, delicate folds of material cloak the determine’s physique, and high-tech sensors inside its head emit bursts of mist. Though the hooded entity can appear a bit eerie by itself, its aura instantly softens because it prompts its environment, creating each rainbows that stretch throughout the watery distance and moments of pleasure for these passing by.
