A brand new season of the Radio Juxtapoz podcast is right here, and we begin with one thing that feels fairly related as we cross-over into the midway mark of 2024. The idea is that this: Fact is a Transferring Goal, and the artist and exhibition it pertains to is Southern California’s Jaime Muñoz who simply opened his first solo museum present at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes in Los Angeles.
When Jaime makes work, he is considering motion, how labor strikes via our world, how we get from one place to a different, and the illusions that some have about what it means to be labor. I wrote this about Jaime earlier this month previous to the podcast, that he “makes use of the utilitarian strategies to discuss a historical past of California, immigration, migration, labor commodification and the auto.”
Over the course of this episode, we discuss these concepts and his distinctive craft of airbrush and ink drawings, via a novel visible collage of the issues we see throughout our commutes and freeway panorama and the political truths we inform ourselves within the midst of all of this. We discuss of his time working with Chris Burden, how the recession of 2008 modified his artwork trajectory and the idea of “Toyoteria.”
