The tournament was inaugurated with a vibrant ceremony hosted by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, setting the stage for a week of thrilling competition.

Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel attended the opening event as the chief guest. His address was not only a welcome to the international teams and local polo associations but also a heartfelt acknowledgment of Manipur’s rich history as the birthplace of modern polo—traditionally referred to as Sagol Kangjei. Dr. Goel underscored the significance of the tournament in preserving the polo heritage of Manipur, emphasizing the importance of protecting the indigenous Manipuri pony, which plays an integral role in the sport.

Dr. Goel made it clear that the government is dedicated to promoting polo in the region. He highlighted initiatives such as upgrading infrastructure, providing international coaching support, and facilitating more global-level events. Collaborations with the Tourism Department, the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) are part of this commitment. Teams participating include an impressive mix of international and national players: USA, Colombia, and three teams from India—India A (Indian Polo Association), India B (Manipur), and India C (Chhattisgarh). The diverse roster enhances the competitive spirit, drawing attention from polo enthusiasts worldwide.
