TGL Season Tees Off: An Overview of Changes and Expectations for 2025
As the excitement builds for the second TGL season, golf enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the rematch of last year’s SoFi Cup finals. In a gripping showdown, the Atlanta Drive Golf Club narrowly defeated the New York Golf Club to claim the inaugural title. This season promises to deliver even more excitement, with fans eager to see how the changes in the league will enhance the viewing experience.
The Lineup and Key Players
The rosters for all six teams remain unchanged from the inaugural season, which includes a mix of seasoned champions and rising stars. Notably absent are iconic players like Tiger Woods and Justin Thomas, both recovering from back surgeries. Woods, however, will still be part of the action, attending matches at Jupiter Links Golf Club and providing commentary with a microphone. Each team’s roster consists of some of the biggest names in golf, making this league a powerhouse of talent.
- Atlanta Drive GC: Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel, Lucas Glover
- Boston Common Golf: Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott, Hideki Matsuyama
- Jupiter Links GC: Tiger Woods, Max Homa, Tom Kim, Kevin Kisner
- Los Angeles Golf Club: Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Sahith Theegala
- New York Golf Club: Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young

Enhanced Gameplay Features
Larger GreenZone Putting Green
One of the most significant changes this season is the expansion of the GreenZone putting surface, which has increased by 38% from last season. Now spanning 5,270 square feet, the surface features 12 hole locations, making it easier and more challenging for players. This enlargement aims to enhance the quality of putting and promises more exciting moments for viewers.
Wyndham Clark, a member of The Bay Golf Club, remarked, “The green is almost double the size… which I think is awesome for any of us, but especially guys that pride themselves on being good putters.”
The innovative design includes the use of 608 actuators to create morphing putting surfaces, keeping the competition dynamic and unpredictable.
Signature Holes
Each team will also benefit from having its own signature hole designed by notable golf course architects. For example, The Bay Golf Club features the “Bay Breaker,” surrounded by towering redwoods with breathtaking views of Alcatraz and the San Francisco skyline. These bespoke holes aim not only to challenge the players but also to enhance the spectacle for fans.
One standout design is a par-4 called “Stinger,” inspired by Tiger Woods’ famous shots. This hole encourages players to attempt a riskier approach, rewarding those with the skill to execute it properly. Holes like these introduce a new layer of strategy to the matches, creating opportunities for dramatic moments and memorable plays.
Cutting-Edge Technology
The TGL continues to push the envelope with technology. New shot comparison graphics and Virtual Eye technology will track shots on the fairways and greens, providing viewers with real-time data-rich insights. The use of augmented-reality graphics will help illustrate shot quality and progress, enhancing the watching experience.
Additionally, the SoFi Center has ramped up its tech game, featuring 79 cameras to capture every angle of play. Among these is the SmartPin Cam, which provides immersive, live 360-degree views from the pin flag, ensuring that fans won’t miss a moment of the action.
Team Dynamics and Expectations
After a disappointing inaugural season where Jupiter Links GC and Boston Common Golf failed to make a playoff appearance, players are ready to turn things around. Tom Kim from Jupiter Links expressed a collective desire among teammates to improve, stating, “We’re ready to win, especially for a guy who’s not used to losing as much.” This mindset reflects the competitive spirit that is sure to carry through the season.
