Local Photographer Perry Bennett Achieves National Recognition
Celebrating Artistic Excellence
Charleston, West Virginia, is buzzing with excitement as local photographer Perry Bennett has recently been honored on both the national and international stages in the world of professional photography. His outstanding achievements include winning a prestigious Platinum Medal at the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) 2026 International Photographic Competition, along with being named a member of Team USA for the upcoming 2026 World Photographic Cup.
The Award-Winning Moment
Bennett’s acclaimed image, “Race Noir II,” captures the dynamic energy of the rainy, nighttime Criterium races held in downtown Charleston during the US Cycling Road National Championships in 2024. This moment of artistic brilliance was recognized at the PPA’s International Photographic Competition, where it advanced to the Round of 4 in a bracket-style live judging format at Imaging USA, a premier annual convention for photographers that took place from January 11-13, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Standing Out Among Thousands
Among the impressive pool of over 2,000 entries, only 48 photographers earned the coveted Platinum Medal, highlighting Bennett’s work among the very best. The judging panel, composed of respected industry leaders and top-tier photographers, evaluated each image meticulously, making this recognition an exceptional accomplishment for Bennett and a testament to his skill.
Team USA Selection
Adding to his list of accolades, Bennett has been officially selected to represent the United States as a member of Team USA for the highly competitive 2026 World Photographic Cup. The announcement was made during the Grand Imaging Awards at Imaging USA, and this unique international competition is co-founded by the Professional Photographers of America and the Federation of European Photographers. Team USA will face off against photographers from 57 countries in Reykjavik, Iceland, in April 2026.
A Proud Moment for West Virginia
Bennett expressed his heartfelt gratitude for being chosen as a member of Team USA, stating, “It’s a great honor to win a spot on Team USA…to be recognized and given the chance to represent my country and the great state of West Virginia is just icing on the cake.” This achievement marks a significant milestone, as Bennett is the first photographer from West Virginia to earn a place on Team USA for the World Photographic Cup.
The Competition Landscape
The World Photographic Cup stands out as a platform that not only celebrates individual talent but also fosters international cooperation in the realm of photography. Competing teams can submit up to three images in ten distinct categories, including Commercial, Illustration/Digital Art, Portrait, Nature, Sports, Wedding, and Photojournalism. Individual medals are awarded in each category, while national teams vie for the prestigious overall title based on aggregate scores. Notably, Team USA clinched first place in the previous competition, raising the stakes for the upcoming event.
A Commitment to Excellence
Bennett’s recent honors are a testament to his dedication to technical mastery, creativity, and professional excellence. His work sets a high standard in the photography community, inspiring both emerging artists and seasoned professionals alike.
