
Team USA Tops Japan 7-2 for U-18 World Title

Team USA demonstrated its supremacy once more on the international stage. In a thrilling finale, the U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team triumphed over world No. 1 Japan with a commanding 7–2 victory at the 2025 WBSC U-18 Women’s World Cup Finals in Devon Park. The team showcased its talent and depth, emphasizing their place as a powerhouse in women’s softball.
With this victory, Team USA not only capped an undefeated tournament run but also secured its fifth consecutive world championship (having previously won in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2021). This latest win marks the ninth overall championship for the program, extending their impressive streak to an astounding 48 consecutive wins at the World Championship level.
This final match represented the 12th occasion that the U.S. and Japan have faced off for gold, with Team USA now boasting seven championship victories in this historic rivalry. They remain the only team to medal in every iteration of the WBSC U-18 Women’s World Cup, accumulating a total of 15 medals — nine gold, five silver, and one bronze. Such statistics illuminate the dominance of the U.S. in this realm of competition.
Boulware and Offense Lead the Charge
The final match kicked off at 2 p.m. CT, and Team USA quickly set the tone. Aspen Boulware was a standout, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple. Supporting her were teammates Ki’ele Ho-Ching, Juliana Hutchens, Addyson Sheppard, and Payton Westra, who each contributed to the offense with hits. Notably, Westra delivered a double, further invigorating the American attack.
Effective pitching was crucial as well. Lilly Goodwin established early dominance on the mound, striking out two batters in the first three innings. Caroline Stanton came into close the game, boasting an impressive five strikeouts to secure the title for the U.S.

Team USA’s remarkable journey through the tournament featured six wins, starting with strong showings against China, Chinese Taipei, and Canada in the Opening Round. Their path continued with Super Round victories over Mexico and Japan, where they secured the top seed heading into the finals.
Throughout the tournament, the American squad overwhelmed opponents, winning three of their games by run rule and outscoring their rivals 48–9. Juliana Hutchens led the offense with a phenomenal .800 batting average, followed closely by Boulware at .588 and McLaine Hudson at .562. The pitching staff, includingMadi Doty, Brielle Gardiner, Goodwin, Ella Kate Smith, and Stanton, collectively tallied an impressive 36 strikeouts, allowing only seven earned runs over 36 innings—a testament to their skill and teamwork.
Awards and Honors Pile Up
The accolades didn’t stop at the championship trophy. Team USA dominated the leaderboards, leading in ten offensive categories throughout the tournament. Caroline Stanton earned recognition as the top pitcher, underscoring the team’s multifaceted talent.
Three American players were named to the All-World Team: Boulware, Hudson, and Hutchens, with Hutchens earning Tournament MVP honors while also taking home three offensive awards for Leading Hitter, Most RBIs, and Most Home Runs. Meanwhile, Boulware received accolades for Most Runs Scored, and Stanton was recognized as the Best Defensive Player, highlighting the depth of talent within the squad.
