U.S. Junior Select Team Claims 11th World Junior A Challenge Title with 5-1 Victory Over Canada West

TROIS-RIVIÈRES, Quebec – The U.S. Junior Select Team made history by clinching the 2025 World Junior A Challenge championship with an impressive 5-1 victory over Canada West at the iconic Colisée Vidéotron. This triumph is not just a milestone for the team but has further solidified the U.S. team’s dominance in Junior A hockey.

Capturing this championship marks Team USA’s second consecutive title and its 11th overall in the history of the World Junior A Challenge. With a record of 4-0-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) throughout the tournament, the team showcased exceptional talent, teamwork, and determination on the ice.

“Winning gold is always special,” reflected Andy Brandt (Wausau, Wis.), the head coach of the U.S. Junior Select Team. “I’m proud of our players and thankful for the staff and the group that put this team together. We’re proud to represent the USA as well as the USHL.” This sentiment resonates deeply within the hockey community, as representing one’s country carries immense significance.

In the championship match, Team USA struck first. Just 1:47 into the game, Brent Solomon (Champlin, Minn./Sioux Falls Stampede) opened the scoring. He skillfully received a pass from Evan Jardine (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Youngstown Phantoms), brilliantly deked past Canadian goaltender Luke McKechnie, and nestled the puck into the net. This early goal set the tone for what would unfold as a commanding performance by the U.S. squad.

The momentum continued to swell for Team USA when, with only 5:31 left in the first period, Masun Fleece (Rolling Hills, Calif./Dubuque Fighting Saints) extended the lead to 2-0. Fleece capitalized on a power play opportunity, tapping the puck in after a crafty setup in front of the net from Jardine, who racked up his second assist of the game. This display of skill underscored not only the individual talents but also the cohesive teamwork that marked the U.S. play throughout the tournament.

This victory is a reflection of the dedication and hard work put forth by the athletes, their coaches, and the entire support staff behind the scenes. As the U.S. Junior Select Team showcased their skills against formidable opponents, the tournament brought together emerging hockey talent, allowing them to compete at a high level while representing their country. It’s a thrilling chapter in hockey history that fans and players alike will remember for years to come.
