WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 20, 2026) – Greenpeace USA recently announced the highly anticipated release of *GASLIT*, a new documentary featuring Academy Award-winning actor and activist Jane Fonda. Set to premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on February 5, 2026, this film promises to be a profound exploration of the individuals impacted by the rapid expansion of fossil fuels in the United States.

In *GASLIT*, Fonda embarks on a road trip through the oil fields of Texas and the coastal communities of the Gulf, meeting everyday people situated at the heart of the United States’ burgeoning fossil fuel industry. As of 2023, the nation has positioned itself as the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), while simultaneously accelerating the production of plastics and petrochemicals. This documentary, including contributions from award-winning actress Connie Britton and Grammy-nominated artist Maggie Rogers, seeks to shine a light on the environmental injustices that accompany this expansion.

The film offers an intimate look at the lives of shrimpers, cattle ranchers, former oil workers, families, and community leaders who are raising their voices against the ecological destruction brought about by this boom. These diverse individuals, united across political and cultural lines, share a common goal: to protect their communities and coastlines from the repercussions of fossil fuel exploitation.

Jane Fonda emphasizes the urgency of the film’s message: “This boom isn’t just about oil and gas – it’s about injustice, pollution, and the destruction of entire communities. *GASLIT* is about amplifying the voices of everyday Americans who are too often ignored. They know what it means to confront power that is seemingly insurmountable, even when you have everything to lose.”

Directed by Katie Camosy, *GASLIT* serves both as a call to action and a reflection on the enduring conflict between fossil fuel profit motives and the survival of vulnerable communities. Camosy highlights the necessity of elevating the narratives of those directly experiencing the climate crisis. “Now more than ever, we need the world to hear directly from those experiencing the climate crisis firsthand,” she states. “*GASLIT* is a visual representation of the movement and the people fighting tooth and nail for their lives every day.”
