It wasn’t until he got older, hearing the harsh realities of racial teasing, including being called the N-word in middle school, that he truly began to comprehend the societal implications of his biracial identity.

Brown has often spoken of his difficult childhood marked by instability and trauma. He faced challenges such as living in a car and experiencing the pain of abusive stepfathers. Music and sports became vital escapes from the harsh realities he faced. At 17, after uploading a cover of George Strait’s “Check Yes or No” to social media, his life began to change dramatically. Overnight, he gained 60,000 followers, paving the way for a record deal and his entry into the music industry.

Finding His Voice

Brown encountered pressure to conform to a specific image, often being shaped into a prototype of a country singer, as opposed to the rapper that some expected based on his appearance. Brown gathers inspiration not only from his own life experiences but also from past Black country artists, such as Charley Pride, whose stories of breaking barriers continue to resonate with him. He reflects, “I love the stories of Charley Pride when people heard him for the first time and found out he was Black—they were just shocked. Those are really cool stories.”
