For Good Unveils Colman Domingo as the Voice of the Cowardly Lion

The excitement for the premiere of Wicked: For Good on November 21 is palpable, with every reveal fueling the anticipation for this highly awaited film adaptation. The latest buzz comes from the official Wicked Instagram account, which recently unveiled the voice of the beloved Cowardly Lion, an iconic character from the story.

On October 20, fans were treated to a sneak peek featuring a plush version of the Cowardly Lion, leading up to the big reveal: the role will be voiced by none other than Broadway and television star Colman Domingo. In a playful video, Domingo graced the screen with a wink and a tease, “See you in Oz,” set against a backdrop of dramatic music, igniting a wave of excitement across social media.

The announcement concluded with the words “Colman Domingo is the Cowardly Lion” flashing on-screen, settling the speculative chatter that had been circulating for months regarding the role. Domingo’s voice adds an additional layer of nuance to a film fans have eagerly awaited since the release of the first part of Wicked in 2024.

Known for his versatile performances in series such as Fear the Walking Dead, Euphoria, and Law & Order, Domingo is set to join an already star-studded cast that includes Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who are reprising their roles as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. The depth of talent in this lineup amplifies the excitement surrounding the film.

This casting reveal comes on the heels of buzzing rumors about secret additions to the Wicked: For Good cast. The speculation was addressed in an October 16 interview with director Jon M. Chu, who shared that he had indeed recruited a famous actor for a cameo role, which turned out to be Domingo. “I was like, ‘It’s not a ton of lines, but maybe you have a little time. I know you’re busy. I’ll come to you,’” Chu recalled. Domingo’s enthusiastic response of “Why the f–k not, let’s go!” showed his eagerness to jump into the project and record his lines promptly.

Kristin Chenoweth’s Anticipation for Wicked: For Good

Adding to the anticipation is the excitement from Kristin Chenoweth, the original Glinda from the Broadway production of Wicked. Speaking with USA Today on the red carpet at the 2025 Tony Awards, Chenoweth expressed her emotional response to the latest trailer. “I cried,” she admitted, showcasing her heartfelt connection to the material.

As she prepares for her upcoming role in the new NBC comedy Stumble, which debuts later this year, Chenoweth’s excitement for Wicked: For Good remains at the forefront. “I can’t wait to see the whole thing,” she shared. “Ariana is perfection. Cynthia is perfection. And if part one affected me so much, I can only imagine what part two’s gonna do.”
