Packers tight end Tucker Kraft received a lot of the attention with a breakthrough night, logging six catches and two touchdowns in the Pack’s 35-25 victory over the Steelers. However, it was also a special night for Savion Williams, a rookie wide receiver who has become a fan favorite. On just his fifth regular-season catch, Williams scored the first NFL touchdown of his career live in primetime, setting the stage for more playing time and perhaps even bigger plays later in the season.

Who is Green Bay Packers’ Speedster Savion Williams?

A Texas native, Williams played college ball at Texas Christian University (TCU), showcasing his skills as a receiver, kick returner, and more. Standing 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 222 pounds, he possesses solid measurables. At the 2025 NFL Combine, he clocked a 40-yard dash time of 4.48 seconds—impressively fast for a player of his size.

Drafted in the third round by the Packers, Williams has been gradually finding his way in the NFL. He has made key contributions over the course of his rookie season, including three catches for 22 yards in Green Bay’s tie against Dallas back in September. So far, he’s caught every pass he’s been targeted on—a small sample size, but an impressive streak nonetheless, especially through eight weeks of play.

In last Sunday’s game, he caught just one pass for eight yards, but it was a significant moment. On a short route that sent him around the edge of the defense, Williams scored his first career touchdown, signaling that we might not have to wait long for his second.

Why Does Savion Williams’ Helmet Look Different?

Despite being a rookie with limited targets, Williams stands out among the Packers roster and the NFL due to his unique helmet silhouette. His helmet appears larger and puffier than those of his teammates because he wears a Guardian Cap. Originally designed for extra padding and head protection during practices, the cap is now approved for use in regular NFL games as an optional accessory for players desiring increased concussion protection.

As reported by Yahoo! Sports, Williams suffered a concussion during training camp, and upon returning, he opted to wear the Guardian Cap full time. This decision showcases his commitment to safety and health at a level that resonates with many players and fans alike.

Sunday Night Football airs Sundays at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
